The Process of Highlights
Highlights are a beauty treatment that can give a natural and subtle boost of color and depth to your look. A safe and easy way to have some fun with your current hairstyle!
Depending on your hair type and the final look that you are trying to achieve, your stylist may use different highlighting techniques. Highlights can be done in natural or funky colors. Highlights are done in four different techniques: temporary, semi-permanent, demi-permanent and permanent.
There are four basic types of highlights: foil highlights, hair painting, frosting, and chunking.
Basic foil highlighting
Foil highlighting is the most popular process of highlighting. It’s acheived by using foil to separate parts of hair, which will be lightened from other parts of hair remaining their natural color.
Applying lightener to the hair with simple brush strokes does the process, folding the foil and letting it sit for some time, depending on the desired result will conclude the final outcome of color, tone, etc.
Hair painting is a method of highlighting hair that is often permanent and a simple hair-painting brush is the technique of choice. Hair painting is also used with temporary and semi-permanent types of brushes or combs.
Frosting is generally performed on men with short hair. It is the process of free- hand lightening the tips of the hair.
Chunking is a style of highlight, which is larger and thicker than traditional highlights. These highlights are generally offered in a wider variety of bold natural colors, as well as a large number of artificial, or unnatural colors (funky blues and reds) and are used to create more contrast, rather than subtle texture, as in traditional, thinner highlights.
Highlights are super-fun and easy to maintain! They will fade and grow out naturally and you will not have as many problems with roots as you do with single-process dyes. Get ready to shine with some amazing highlights! Call our front desk at 305.933.9889 to schedule your next highlight session!
